Introducing the New Magento Association Board Members: Meet Ollie Hunt!

My Story: Ollie Hunt.
I’ve been in the eCommerce and digital space for quite some time now (20+ Years), but my journey into the Magento ecosystem wasn’t exactly planned—it just kind of happened. Like many others, I stumbled into it while working on a project that needed something flexible, scalable, and customisable. Magento ticked all those boxes, and before I knew it, I was fully immersed in the community, learning from some incredibly smart people and building a career around it.
What really hooked me, though, wasn’t just the technology—it was the community. Unlike other platforms, Magento has this open, collaborative, and sometimes chaotic energy that makes it unique. There’s a shared sense of purpose among developers, agencies, merchants, and partners to constantly push the platform forward. That’s something I haven’t seen anywhere else, and it’s what’s kept me here for so long.
What Inspired You to Join the Magento Association Board?
The short answer? Because Magento deserves better.
Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the passion and dedication of the Magento community, but I’ve also seen frustrations—especially when it comes to clarity around Magento Open Source, the future of the platform, and the role of the MA. I wanted to be part of the solution.
The MA has the potential to be the beating heart of this ecosystem - a bridge between the community, partners, and Adobe. But for that to happen, it needs to be a platform that actively listens, engages, and delivers real value to its members. That’s what excites me about being on the board: the chance to help strengthen the voice of the community, drive better collaboration, and push for more transparency and alignment across the ecosystem.
What are your thoughts on the Magento Association?
For me, the mission of the Magento Association is simple: to be the champion of the Magento ecosystem—ensuring that it remains open, innovative, and thriving.
This isn’t just about maintaining a piece of software; it’s about fostering an environment where developers, merchants, and solution providers can build, learn, and grow together. Magento is more than a platform—it’s an ecosystem built by people who care deeply about it. The MA’s role is to support and empower that ecosystem.
A big part of that comes down to open collaboration, education, and thought leadership. By creating more learning opportunities, amplifying the voices of experts, and facilitating connections across the industry, the MA helps everyone in the ecosystem level up—whether they’re developers honing their craft, merchants scaling their businesses, or agencies looking to innovate.
What’s important to the Magento Association?
Magento thrives on the free exchange of ideas. Developers contribute code, agencies share expertise, and merchants provide feedback—driving the platform forward. This spirit of collaboration sets Magento apart, ensuring every contribution strengthens the ecosystem.
Education is key to unlocking Magento’s full potential. With a steep learning curve comes great capability, and supporting developers—especially newcomers—ensures continued growth. Leadership within the industry is equally vital, amplifying expert voices and keeping Magento at the forefront of eCommerce.
At its core, Magento’s future depends on continuous improvement. As an open-source platform, its success relies on active contribution and innovation. A strong, dedicated community will keep it modern, secure, and competitive for years to come.
The benefits of Magento Association membership
Joining the Magento Association isn’t just about having your name on a list—it’s about plugging into a network of people who can help you grow.
For individuals, it means access to learning opportunities, networking, and visibility within the industry. For businesses, it’s about connections, credibility, and influence in shaping the direction of the platform.
The Magento community is tight-knit and full of opportunities—but only if you’re actively engaged. MA membership helps facilitate that.
How can you get involved?
If you’re new to Magento and want to get involved, just start showing up.
- Join community calls.
- Get active in forums, Slack channels, and social groups.
- Attend events—both virtual and in-person.
- Contribute to discussions, share knowledge, and ask questions.
As for volunteering, the MA offers several opportunities to get involved, from helping organise events to contributing content. Even if you don’t have time to contribute directly, simply engaging and sharing your experiences helps strengthen the community.
What’s coming up in 2025?
For me, the biggest priority in the next year is solidifying Magento Open Source’s positioning and ensuring the community has a stronger say in its direction. There’s been too much uncertainty, and it’s time to create more clarity and alignment.
Beyond that, I’d love to see the MA become a go-to resource for both developers and merchants. That means better education programs, more content, and stronger engagement between all parts of the ecosystem.
Our Community Impact
There are so many success stories in this community—developers who have built careers, agencies that have scaled, merchants who have grown multi-million-dollar businesses. One of the best things about Magento is that it creates opportunities.
The MA needs to actively tell those stories and showcase the real-world impact of Magento Open Source. That’s how we continue attracting talent, innovation, and investment into the ecosystem.
On diversity and inclusion—this is an ongoing effort, but one the MA must take seriously. The community is global, and our leadership, events, and initiatives need to reflect that diversity.

And for existing members—if you’re not seeing the value you expected, let’s talk about it. The MA only works if it represents and serves the community, so speak up, engage, and help shape our future.
