Magento Association Town Hall Recap – Q2 2025

Transparency, Growth & Shared Vision for the Future

On June 25, 2025, the Magento Association hosted its second Town Hall of the year—an inspiring and informative gathering that highlighted both progress and possibilities. With voices from across the ecosystem, the Town Hall reflected our collective commitment to transparency, collaboration, and the long-term sustainability of Magento Open Source.

Driving Accountability and Empowerment

Slava Kravchuk opened the session with a clear message: the Magento Association exists because of and for the community. Reflecting on the new board’s focus on accountability, he emphasized how committees are becoming increasingly central to strategic progress—with 28 volunteers now actively shaping the Association’s initiatives. Committee members are being granted more autonomy, and efforts are underway to better recognize their invaluable contributions.

Elections: A Call to Lead

A key highlight was the announcement of this year’s Board of Directors election. Four seats will be up for election, including one by direct member vote and three by the election committee. Nominations open July 7th, and Slava encouraged everyone passionate about the future of Magento to step forward. Updates to the bylaws will streamline this annual process and reinforce a consistent rotation of leadership.

Marketing Momentum and Open Source Focus

Laura Folco shared exciting developments from the marketing and open source front. A new content strategy is in the works, podcasts are making a comeback, and community PR prioritization is gaining traction. She also introduced the Magento Forger app—a community-driven tool to simplify contribution management—and issued a heartfelt call for volunteers across marketing, content, and technical contribution efforts.

Global Event Expansion

Jamie Huskisson brought great news from the Events Committee: Magento events have grown by over 250% year over year. From the UK and India to Brazil, France, and the Philippines, the global momentum is clear. A new global Call for Papers process simplifies speaker engagement, while new support playbooks and resources aim to empower event organizers everywhere.

Product and Web Services Updates

Mathias Schreiber highlighted improvements across Magento Association web services, including:

  • The beta release of the Magento Showcase program.
  • A more robust, community-powered event calendar.
  • The first version of the Member Portal, offering easier access to badges and discounts.
  • Near-completion of the long-awaited Expert Listing directory.

Recognition and Documentation Reimagined

Vijay Golani presented plans to reboot the Magento Recognition Program—under a new, inclusive name—and led by a volunteer committee focused on celebrating diverse contributions.

Meanwhile, Danny Verkade announced a major initiative to improve merchant and developer documentation for Magento Open Source. A new framework and content plan are underway, with over 60 how-to guides in the pipeline.

Adobe Insights and ACCS Launch

Ritesh Somani from Adobe reaffirmed Adobe’s support for Magento Open Source while unveiling the launch of Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (ACCS)—a SaaS evolution built on the Magento foundation. ACCS aims to reduce maintenance overhead and unlock innovation through tools like App Builder. Importantly, he emphasized that open source remains a first-class citizen in Adobe’s ecosystem.

Unfiltered Community Q&A

The Town Hall concluded with a vibrant Q&A session, where community questions covered a wide range of critical topics, including:

  • Laminas MVC retirement and platform security
  • Theme modernization and PCI 4.0 compliance
  • Merchant visibility and local event support
  • Marketplace stewardship and App Builder access
  • Documentation strategy and AI integration
  • Board member transitions, financial updates, and membership fees

Each question was answered with candor and thoughtfulness—underscoring the Magento Association’s commitment to openness and inclusivity.

A Shared Future

As the session wrapped up, Slava left attendees with a simple but powerful message: the future of Magento is in our hands. Whether through committee participation, contribution, or board candidacy, everyone has a role to play in shaping what comes next.
